Thermoclad Duralon Nylon 11
DURALON Nylon 11 powder is produced for fluid-bed and electrostatic use by Thermoclad Company to compliment its family of DURAVIN Vinyl coatings. Even at a cost factor five to six times that of PVC, Nylon appears to be the necessary alternative for certain applications as it offers engineering properties not available with PVC coatings.
DURALON Nylon 11 coating characteristics include:
- Superior Abrasion Resistance, because of Nylon's extremely low coefficient of friction.
- Solvent Resistance, Nylon is resistant to practically all commercial solvents.
- Hardness of 55 Shore D makes Nylon 11 one of the hardest and toughest resilient coatings available.
- DURALON has high Impact Strength at ambient and low temperatures.
- Most DURALON formulations carry USDA Approval, are inert to fungus growth and are highly stain resistant.
Good electrical insulation properties and outdoor weathering also make DURALON a candidate for such applications if the cost is justifiable.
SELF ADHERING DURALON POWDER
Thermoclad Company also offers a Self-adhering grade of specially processed, structurally 'reinforced', Nylon 11 for functional applications. During the fusion process, this product cures and cross-links to form a 'reinforced' coating, appreciably improving the Nylon's wear resistance. Self-adhering DURALON JM , ES Grade DURALON JE and Fluid Bed DURALON J have been designed primarily for nut and bolt 'patch' to eliminate the need for lock washers, although other applications exposed to high wear, such as sliding components or other moving parts can benefit from a coating offering low friction, and exceptional deformation resistance. DURALON NYLON PRIMER
DURALON Nylon Primer is available in three basic grades: Solvent and Water Borne Emulsions. As with DURAVIN primers, the same basic pretreatment and application considerations should be observed.
ECONOMICS
DURALON Nylon 11 powder, available in a wide range of colors, should be considered when coating performance under adverse conditions is specified. The same formula as presented earlier for DURAVIN coatings may be used for estimating coating coverage and cost of DURALON coating. Depending on pigmentation to some degree, specific gravity of DURALON Nylon 11 powder coating averages about 1.1, roughly 20% lower than vinyl.
